Recalculating Euphoria

Feature-length screenplay

A Psychological Horror Thriller

On a road trip to Hollywood, two young filmmakers find themselves trapped in a nightmare straight from the pages of their own horror scripts, but in this story, only one director will survive.

A quarterfinalist in Screencraft’s 2014 Horror Script Contest and the International Screenwriters’ Association‘s 2021 Horror & Thriller Genre Busting Screenplay Competition.

Vision

At the heart of every horror film is a source of terror, and in Recalculating Euphoria terror is born out of the protagonists’ desire to create a terrifying film. How far is too far to go in pursuing a creative vision? When does genius become madness?

As Jonathan and Brian strive to situate themselves in the film industry, they find themselves confronted by such dramatic questions only to realize they are locked in a struggle for their own survival. On the journey, the audience must ask themselves how far they are willing to let their imaginations go in following them.

Paying homage to classics of terror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Shining, the script updates the timeless Faustian theme of an artist’s descent into madness for the age of the Internet.

Proof-of-Concept

The feature length screenplay was adapted into a short proof-of-concept film called “Calculating Euphoria.”
